The Perla-class was one of the subclasses of the 600 Series coastal submarines. More or less a repeat of the previous Sirena class, the subs were armed with four forward and two aft 21in torpedo tubes, with a set of reloads for each. A 100mm deck gun and a pair of 13.2mm machineguns rounded out their armament. Ten boats were built, half of which were lost in service. Another, Ambra, was scuttled at La Spezia. Ambra and Iride were modified in 1940 to be used by Decima Flotigglia MAS as carriers for Maiale manned torpedos.
